Прочитайте текст внимательно, можно несколько раз. В тексте выделены те слова и словосочетания, которые, как мне кажется, могут вызвать у вас затруднения, и их перевод (и транскрипцию!) вы найдете после текста.

Задание: Поcтарайтесь понять, о чем идет речь в рассказе, а потом ответьте на вопросы по тексту.

Money is happiness - is that true?

For unemployed people, money is very important. But for people with good jobs, money is not always the key thing. Other things are just as important.

For example, take these five typical people. Is money the main thing for them? Petra, a nurse, says, "The key thing in my life is the happiness of my children." Ben is an engineer, and for him, learning new things at work is the main thing. Luisa is a waitress. She says, "The nice thing about my job is meeting new people - it's not really the money." Jack is a part-time teacher. Having a lot of free time is important to his happiness. Beth is an interpreter. What she enjoys is travelling, and her job enables her to go abroad with her boss almost every month.

But of course when you are unemployed, when you are desperately seeking for any job, money is of great importance.

- unemployed - безработный, to be unemployed - быть без работы;
- the key thing = the main thing = the important thing - ключевой момент, самое главное, важный момент;
- to be just as... - так же; так же, как...;
Пример из текста. Other things are just as important - другие моменты так же важны;
- nurse - няня;
- waitress - официантка;
- to work part-time - работать не на полную ставку, частичная занятость;
- interpreter - переводчик на переговорах (Внимание! Переводчик, выполняющий письменные переводы - это translator);
- to go abroad - ездить за границу;
- you are desperately seeking - Вы отчаянно ищете.
